This fan replaces a 1948 Vornado that finally died from sheeer neglect. Even so, it served 65 years until it finally froze up from not being lubricated through the two grease fittings. This is one of the great American brands, like Caterpillar and Harley Davidson. When I did the internet search, Walmart had the low price, with a discount that covered the sales tax. There was no shipping charge and the product arrived before the specified lead time. I recommend on-line purchases of American brands from Walmart. On the matter of Asian imports, I defer to others.

The Vornado 293 does an outstanding job circulating the air in my home in Tucson, AZ. It makes and excellent adjunct to the evaporative (swamp) cooler, which is the only other means of air conditioning for the home. The accelerated air movement helps evaporate the excess moisture produced by the swamp cooler, further cooling the air and keeping the home comfortable during the hot summer months. The 293 model has a stronger motor and better base than other large model Vornado fans I have purchased in the past.

This fan replaced one that I ran night and day while my sister visited. I had it for many years.  Most fans are smaller.  This one is a perfect size and circulates air in a 9 x 12 room.  I loved being able to see it in my apt. using a photo on my phone.

Moves a lot of air

I've owned these fans for about 10yrs, the 953 primarily and a few smaller ones. I've only had one fail however, it was subject to drywall dust and moisture. This fan is Made in the USA and the craftsmanship is very different than the 953, the plastic housing density is thicker and the motor itself appears more precision and heavier duty than the 953. The metal stand has a good feel meaning, not thin metal. The fan must be attached to the stand, IHMO they should do this at the factory. The power cord is a three prong end and the cord itself is a thicker gauge than the 953. The airflow between the two models is comparable and the fan noise is about the same.

I will be purchasing the 293 over the 953 in the future, the main reason is Made in the USA and the motor. As noted, i've own the 953 for years and these fans run 24x7 in my house and i've only had one fail so, i'm hoping the 293 gives me the same reliable service.

Made in the USA is the best part

This is my second Vornado.  The first one is still working great.  I have a big bedroom that doesn't cool like the rest of my house. I purchased this one and the air circulation is beyond great!  Quiet and easy to clean.  Couldn't have made a better purchase for Oklahoma heat.  Keeps me very cool!

The unit is not oversized, so it works well in an apartment. It is surprisingly quiet for how powerful it is. It really moves the air! I turned it off for about an hour during the hottest part of the day (a day of extreme heat) and the room became very warm, even though I had the air conditioner on. Once I turned the fan back on the room temperature dropped dramatically. I am very happy with this purchase and would definitely recommend it.

Happy With Purchase

Like the green color. The yellow was to bold.  The fan works great and moves air throughout the whole house.  I have a split level home and the upper level gets uncomfortablely warm in the summer afternoon.  I point the fan down the stairs on the lowest setting.  It keeps the air throughout the whole house moving and cool.

Built to last

this fan is expensive ,and is suppose to be heavy duty's what they said, only used one to two months out of the year and keep it clean and boxed when not in use,,,,surprise after 5 years is not working at all and is not the fuse, nobody could help me to see and fix problem,,,,last time I buy any tornado fan
