I like the Dremel rotary tools.  I have had my corded original varibal speed since the late 90's and I wanted to get one that would go anywhere.  The 8220, being battery powered plus stout enough to do the work it was designed to do fits the bill.  Not sure how long the battery will last with a heavy work load but so far so good.  The claim is fast charging so we'll see.

I really like my Dremel products. The cordless makes use very convenient. I use it for many small projects and it performs adequately. Here's the rub, though. Product is good but the carry case is useless. It just won't stay closed. Cheap latches, poor design. Now both latches won't stay closed. I know I can modify the case but I shouldn't have to. Hope you put more thought into a redesign of the case.

Convenience of no cord

I have a deluxe Dremel system; however, mine is corded which really limits what and where I can do my work without an extension cord. I have 100 yards of extension cord for outdoor use but it is cumbersome if you talk about cleanup, setup and practice use. There is more practicality since you do not have to deal with a long cord that may inhibit certain angles or positions that you may need to get the job done.

After acquiring this particular cordless version, I feel truly liberated. Now, I can freely go into the backyard and work on sanding areas on my wrought iron fence, our 20 year old basketball goal post, and working around the garage.

The biggest advantage of this Dremel system is the EZ Twist system which allows you to place, rotate and lock the various attachments without having to resort to additional tools/screws. It is a more expensive option but when you need speed and convenience or you have limited time, then there is no better alternative.

There are various accessories that allow for polishing, sanding, cutting, drilling, engraving, wood etching, and even sharpening. The handy case keeps it all organized.

The unit is ergonomic, lightweight and easy to operate. Adjusting revolutions is facilitated with a tactile dial that works even with thin or medium weight working gloves.

Battery life has been excellent and I have never been on a job where I ran out of power, though most of my jobs take only an hour or hour and a half, at most.

Dremel brand products have always been a reliable, economical and versatile lineup for me and my workshop.

Must-buy versatile tool for any homeowner.

Previously owned the 8000 model. Provided a review on same on this site regarding issues I experienced with the chuck locking mechanism for this tool. Tried a switch from the 8000 to the 8100 model. The 8100 model had the same issue. In response to my problems, Dremel customer service provided the 8220 model. Difference is clear. The design of the 8220 is superior to either the 8000 or the 8100. Also clear from this is the wonderful customer service provided by Dremel. Big thumbs-up for both the 8220 and Dremel customer support!!!

Great Tool with better design than the 8000 & 8100

The ad listed a Right Angle Attachment as an included accessory. There was not one included in the case or shown on the box. I am keeping the Dremel because I already have a right angle attachment but I would have been highly upset if I had been really needing one. Other than that oversight, the tool seems to work well.

Two batteries but no Right Angle Attachment

I'm really disappointed with the battery life of the 8220. I have four rusted iron window gates that I need to sand and I don't have an outlet that is close. The battery died on me within 30 minutes. I'm returning the 8220 and getting the wired version with a 100' extension cord. It's a great tool if you need if you need it running less than 30 minutes. Otherwise, get the wired version.

Great Tool, horrible battery life.

The tool seems powerful enough but it has some drawbacks. First, the multilock collet lock is completely counter-intuitive. There is no clear selection of whether you are loosening the collet or collet nut. I have literally disassembled a sanding bit before I got the collet loosened. There really is no clear way to do this. I think for the price, it should have definite user control. 2nd, like I said price. I paid extra for the cordless vs the corded. Disappointed the extra money doesn't really get you a lot. Otherwise I would rate it 5 stars.

Not worth the money

I requested and got this for Christmas. Was going to use it to remove grout from my shower floor. Bought a set of grout bits and went at it. Worked great for the first hour. Then it stopped and the flashing lights on it gave indications of overheating. Let it rest for a couple of hours and now it only works for 5 minutes at a time before overheating. Don't know if I have a defective unit or if this is normal. It runs OK for light duty stuff now but why did it work for a while with the grout and then quit?

Poor heat resistant

It seems as there must be a bad batch or something of this dremel, as I am not the only one having battery issues. My battery is going dead within a few minutes of starting to use it. I was really hoping for this 12v version to be awesome. I usually have no problems with dremel products, I get them all the time. Looks like this one is going back and my store has no more in stock to exchange. I was really hoping for a game changer I  the dremel cordless.

Get a corded unit

We bought this tool after they discontinued the 8000 model (which was wonderful). Our company has had nothing but issues with this model. It will be completely charged and then just randomly not turn on. It is weighted very awkward which makes it very hard on the wrist. Gets hot in the hand after a short while of using it and also likes to kick back off of the dogs nails and grind our fingers. We never had these problems with the old model. Hoping that these are just bugs that will be worked out in a later model. Hopefully will be more user friendly!! Looking into getting a different rotary tool.
