This is my first Asus motherboard and I love it so much. Installation was easy no fighting with the Bios or drivers everything just went smooth. I've had it for 6 months and it's never crashed once. Definitely recommend it. It's a well designed and aesthetic board as well. Performance is thought the roof as well

This is my 6th pc build,initially purchased an msi unify x motherboard which turned out to be defective and I decided to purchase asus z890 motherboard instead,their is alot to like about this motherboard,and several things I don't like,it's really nice looking,and the ram slots are very secure,but I don't love the pci release,I wish it had a conventional graphics card clip in method and a push button release,also I don't love the m2 ssd placement and one piece motherboard cover because it's very cramped and the graphics card has to be removed to install another m2 ssd

Great looking motherboard

Board is well made and tons of features but install needs a little better documentation. They give you a ROG USB but don't tell you what's on it. I had to load new Bios for board to work and didn't load ME file with it because they tell you to rename with their renamer tool and upload bios to board so I didn't have ME on it. I was able to load ME through the bios thankfully. Had issues with restart once I was in Windows and after several hours troubleshooting & reloading windows 3 times I figured out it was an old Hard drive installed on SATA 6. I don't know why but I have 2 SSD in slots 1 & 2. Once I unplugged this drive auto restarting programs in windows worked. Something was inhibiting this feature with the drive plugged into this port. Does it have to do with drive format or conflict on board I have no idea but would like to know. I haven't tried plugging into a different SATA port yet. I have a TUFF RTX 5070 OC graphics card in PCIE slot. Disappointed that I can't control fans on my new expensive ROG Strix Helios case too. It's all Asus but they have a built in controller in the case and I will have to figure out how to rewire it to work on the motherboard.

Build headache

Exceptional MoBo, all the bells and whistles to make any gamer happy for years to come.  Smart design keeps excess wires out of sight, allows for some serious fan usage/connectivity.  Excellent controls for setting the perfect amount of cooling, fan speed and creating outstanding special effects with RGB lighting controls.  It was fun to build to build my rig with the ROG Maximus Z890 hero as the perfect centerpiece.

Worth every penny

Amazing motherboard. Heavy and well built. Loads of features, especially 6 x m.2 slots. 
Was very easy installing everything. 
Just one problem I encountered. My samsung 8TB P9100 NVME shows up in motherboard bios but when installing windows 11 it does not find it. 
A work around is to disable VDM in bios but this turns off Raid features, which I need. Support says to download RST drivers, but that did not work. After downlaoding so many drivers and install windows 11 with RST turned off i managed to find the correct drivers. 
Asus need to show this on the Hero Z890 web page and have a link to the correct drivers. 
Apart from that, excellent motherboard.

Great MB but NVMe not showing 4 window 11 install

Incredible motherboard. I would love of the motherboard supported 10gb instead of 5 for ethernet. I have much to learn how this wo derful motherboard works. I look forward getting the extreme one day. A+++

Wonderful motherboard. Great for SSD installation

I appreciate the role of a MoBo in a build, but unless overclocking, there is no real need to go above the STRIX model which is significantly cheaper. I will do some BIOS and or/ tweak app adjustments in the near future, which could potentially have been done on the STRIX model, I do however prefer the look of the Hero over the STRIX model. I also like to get the best I can for my use without spending stupid money, and going above this board to the "Extreme" MoBo wasn't justifiable for my usage (at twice the price).

The VRM stays cool, probably helped with my CPU block fan on the Arctic III and large fan and air movement on my HAF 700 EVO case. I like the VRM display. Connections are vast, 2 front USB connectors are very useful, high speed rear LAN is very good, gen 5 M2 with my Samsung Pro 9100 is lightning quick as is the PCIe 5 running the Astral 5080.

Overall it's great, have given it 4 stars; Even with the latest BIOS update (2302) I can't get the system to start-up with anything over 6000MT/s on my 64GB of G.Skill Z5 6400 CL32-39-39, I just get a black screen and a restart which is disappointing. I will continue to try ways around this - I have seen people get 7200 working!

Very good

Awesome board now in use for a year. However, the ROG LED "G" light went off and it would take a motherboard replacement to fix. Not a big deal since it does not affect functionality but nevertheless a glitch and wondering why a small simple part would fail after a year.

Amazing Motherboard But...

The good: I chose this for the BIOS code dispaly and CMOS resset. Installation of the drives is very easy and the integrated heatsinks are substantial!

The not so good: The Polymo display has some sort of residue or etching on the surafce after removing the protective film. I tried several methods to remove, but was unsucsessful.

Solid build, but with a minor cosmetic defect

Plagued with bugs, I've had to turn off gen 5 with a ultra 9 285k, I've had to turn off usb4 tunneling, I've had to down lock my ram, my gen 5 graphics cards are running as gen 4 just to stop the bad errors. I'm getting ital and system service exception bsod's. Ireland not less or equal bsod's, system service exception bsod's, usb-c transfer crashes, idle bsod's, random kernel crashes, I've been a solid ASUS and rog fan from the start but this is just unacceptable.

ASUS really needs to work this out

Memory compatibility is not up to par. Could not utilize the maximum Ram advertised. Was limited to only to two slots. That was disappointing for a high end motherboard.
